Lego Technic Heavy-Duty Excavator 42121 Review
In the packaging, you will find 6 bags with individual parts in total. Those are divided into 4 building stages. The first one is for building the arm with the shovel and the other ones are for building the rest of the vehicle; the bodywork, the suspension and the tracks. There are 11 stickers included as well.
It took me 2 hours to build the excavator but I’m an experienced builder. So, if you are a beginner with Lego, it may keep you busy for a little longer. Each track consists of 43 small pieces.
The main features include a moving arm and a shovel, running tracks and a detailed cabin with a red seat for the driver.
This Lego Technic set is also a 2 in 1 model. The B model is a tracked tractor with backhoe. However, the instructions for it are not included within the packaging. I had to search for them on the Internet, but it was not a problem to find them. I found them on the lego.com website (here’s the exact link where you will find them: https://www.lego.com/en-us/service/buildinginstructions/42121). You can download them as a PDF document. Below, you can see some photos of the B model that I’ve also built. My brother has taken some photos of it for me.
The total number of pieces that are included within this set is 569. And the dimensions of the excavator are 14.5 inches (37 cm) long, 4 inches (11 cm) wide and 9 inches (23 cm) tall.
Overall, I really like this particular construction vehicle Lego set because it comes with realistic functions. I would also say that it is quite similar to the Lego Technic 42097 Compact Crawler Crane set that I reviewed earlier. This one is a little smaller, though. I would say this Lego model could be an ideal birthday gift for your kids that will keep them busy for a few hours.

Lego enthusiast, big Lego Technic fan. I have been blogging about Lego since 2017, when I started this blog. When I’m not writing an article for this blog or building a Lego set, I’m probably riding my bike. You can find out more about me here.
